I LOVE LOVE LOVE dresses from the 50s. Thanks to Christian Dior's New Look, the silhouette was waspish waists, full busts, and full hips. Let's make that extra full hips. So extra full, in fact, that women often used an entire extra garment to create the voluminous skirt. This extra garment is called a petticoat, and I recently decided that I needed one.
Okay, maybe need is a strong word, but I REALLLLY wanted one, so I went ahead and ordered one. It arrived a couple of weeks after my new dress form did, so it wasn't until recently that I was able to use it in photographing items for the shop. Petticoats are so fun. You can get them in a wide range of colors and a wide range of materials, and this makes for a wide range of prices. I opted for a fairly inexpensive white one, and from what I gather I'm quite lucky that it's not scratchier than it is. I'm already looking at buying more, though. They're so fun when they peek out from under the hem of your dress. Here are a few items I shot this week. I'm still brushing up on my photoshop skills (it's been a while since shooting indoors, and seamless white background can be tricky!).
